We begin our tour with pickup from your hotel early in the morning, between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m., aboard our comfortable private bus. During the journey, we will explore the impressive Funerary Towers or Chullpas of Ninamarca, located 3,750 meters above sea level, followed by a brief stop in Paucartambo, a picturesque folkloric town known for its colonial bridge. We will then head to the upper reaches of Paucartambo, specifically to the Acjanaco sector, at an altitude of 4,000 meters above sea level. This point marks the beginning of Manu National Park. We will descend through the mysterious cloud forest, home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including beautiful orchids, heliconias, and primitive ferns. During the hike, you will have the opportunity to witness the fascinating mating ritual of the Cock-of-the-Rock (Rupícola peruvian). There’s also the chance to spot birds such as trogons (Trogon sp.), quetzals, and if we’re lucky, even the elusive spectacled bear (Tremarctos ornatus). In the afternoon, we’ll arrive at the picturesque village of Pilcopata, located 550 meters above sea level, where our cozy traditional lodge is located. Away from the town, this lodge offers private bathrooms and showers to ensure a comfortable stay.
After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we will continue our bus journey to Atalaya, a 45-minute ride that will take us to an altitude of 490 meters above sea level. In Atalaya, we will board a boat for 30 minutes to reach the Paititi Lodge, where we will spend the night in a traditional setting with private bathrooms and showers. During the boat ride, we will have the opportunity to observe a variety of animals in their natural habitat. After enjoying a delicious lunch, in the afternoon we will head to Cocha Machuwasi. There, we will take a ride on a typical catamaran to observe a wide variety of birds, such as the Shansho (Ophisthocomus hoatzin), as well as monkeys, reptiles, dwarf caimans, and insects. We may also be lucky enough to spot some capybaras (Hydrochaerus hydrochaeris). At night, we offer an exciting optional Night Trekking program for those who wish to explore the jungle after dark. We’ll then return to the hostel, where private bathrooms and showers are available to ensure a comfortable and relaxing stay.
Very early, we will depart by boat to the green parrot clay lick, a mineral-rich clay wall where we can observe three to four different species of parrots in their natural habitat. After this fascinating experience, we will return by boat to enjoy a hike through the forest to see the giant tree. We will have the opportunity to see a wide variety of birds, as well as monkeys, small reptiles, dwarf caimans, and insects. In the afternoon, we will return to our lodge to enjoy a delicious lunch. Then, at night, we will have the option to participate in night walks to explore the jungle in a completely different environment. We will rest at the lodge, where private bathrooms and showers will be available for your comfort during your stay.
After enjoying our delicious breakfast, it’s sadly time to say goodbye to the Paititi lodge and embark on our return boat trip to Atalaya. There, the bus will be waiting to take us back to Cusco, once again crossing the enigmatic cloud forest on our way to the imperial city. We estimate arriving in Cusco between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m., thus culminating our exciting journey through the Manu jungle.
