The crown jewel of this journey is the visit to Vinicunca, the renowned Rainbow Mountain, where vibrant mineral stripes create a stunning natural artwork. The Rainbow Mountain 2 Day Tour is ideal for travelers looking for a brief yet immersive Andean trekking experience, filled with breathtaking scenery, cultural interactions, and the unforgettable thrill of exploring one of Peru’s most iconic natural wonders.
We pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 4:00 am and drive approximately 3.5 hours to Queshuno, the starting point of our Rainbow Mountain Trek via the Ausangate Route. Upon arrival, enjoy a freshly prepared breakfast by our professional trekking chef. After organizing your gear and reviewing the itinerary, we begin our high-altitude trekking adventure in the Peruvian Andes.
The morning hike passes traditional Andean stone houses, wide highland pampas, and herds of llamas and alpacas, offering a true cultural experience. Our destination is Pucacocha High Pass, where you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the Ausangate Glacier, one of the most sacred mountains in the Cusco region. After taking time to admire the scenery, we descend to our campsite for a freshly prepared lunch.
In the afternoon, our trekking team sets up a comfortable dining tent, allowing you to relax and enjoy the surrounding Andean landscapes while dinner is prepared. As night falls, experience an unforgettable Andean night sky, filled with bright stars and southern constellations—one of the highlights of this trek.
Today is the highlight of the Rainbow Mountain trek. We wake up at 4:45 am with a warm cup of coca tea, followed by a nutritious breakfast. We then begin our ascent to Ananta Pass at 5,150 m / 16,896 ft, the highest point of the trek. From the pass, we descend toward Circle Lake, surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery.
Continuing along the trail, we pass two additional alpine lakes before arriving at Vinicunca, also known as Rainbow Mountain, one of Peru’s most iconic natural attractions. Take time to explore, admire the vibrant mineral colors, and capture unforgettable photos of this world-famous destination.
Next, we hike for about 30 minutes to visit the impressive Red Valley, known for its striking red landscapes and panoramic Andean views. After enjoying this unique area, we descend for approximately 2 hours to our final lunch spot.
