Cusco, recognized as the Historical Capital of Peru and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, preserves impressive archaeological monuments and ancient traditions inherited from the Inca civilization. Its monumental structures defy time and continue to captivate visitors from all over the world.
Your half-day tour begins with a visit to the Temple of Santo Domingo, built on the foundations of the ancient Temple of the Sun (Coricancha)—the most important religious structure of the Inca Empire. Early chroniclers reported that its walls were once covered in sheets of gold.
We then continue to the Cusco Cathedral, a masterpiece of colonial art that houses carved wooden sculptures, baroque altars, and remarkable paintings from the Cusco School of Art. We also admire the beautiful façade of the Church of the Society of Jesus, considered one of the most impressive colonial temples in the city.
Next, we will head to the archaeological complexes surrounding Cusco:
Sacsayhuamán
An astonishing ceremonial fortress featuring massive stone walls, with some blocks exceeding 6 meters in height and weighing over 120 tons. It is one of the finest examples of Inca engineering.
Qenqo
Meaning “Labyrinth,” this stone sanctuary includes carved passages and altars used for ceremonial and ritual purposes.
Pukapukara
Known as the “Red Fortress” due to the reddish color reflected in its stones at dusk. It is believed to have served as a military post and control point along the Inca road system.
Tambomachay
A sacred site dedicated to the worship of water, famous for its finely carved fountains and aqueducts. It is also referred to as the Inca Baths.
At the end of the tour, we will return to the city of Cusco.
