Your 2-Day Machu Picchu and Sacred Valley Tour by Train begins with pick-up from your hotel in Cusco between 6:00 and 6:30 AM. Bring only a small backpack, as you will spend the night in Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo).
We travel by private transport to the Sacred Valley, beginning with a visit to Chinchero, famous for its Inca terraces and traditional textile centers. Next, we continue to Moray, an impressive system of circular agricultural terraces used by the Incas for advanced crop experimentation.
Our journey continues to the Maras Salt Mines, one of the oldest salt extraction sites in the world and an important part of the region’s history. We then enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before heading to Ollantaytambo, where you will explore its remarkable Inca fortress, terraces, and temples.
The Sacred Valley tour ends around 3:00–3:30 PM in Ollantaytambo. From here, you will board your train—Expedition or Vistadome, operated by PeruRail or Inca Rail—toward Aguas Calientes. The 1.5-hour train ride offers beautiful views of the Urubamba River, the Andes, and the cloud forest. Upon arrival, our staff will escort you to your hotel.
NOTE: After visiting Ollantaytambo, the rest of the group will continue the tour to visit Pisac and finally return to Cusco.
Today you will visit Machu Picchu, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After an early breakfast, you will take the first buses up to the citadel to enjoy the site in the peaceful morning light before the crowds arrive.
A 2-hour guided tour will take you through the most important sectors of the Inca citadel, including viewpoints. Learn about the impressive engineering, architecture, and water systems created by the Incas—masterpieces still admired today.
After your guided experience, you may optionally climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (advance tickets required).
Huayna Picchu: approx. 50 min up / 50 min down
Machu Picchu Mountain: approx. 3 hours round trip
After exploring, return to Aguas Calientes. You may enjoy lunch here before boarding the train at around 16:22 PM (subject to availability) back to Ollantaytambo, where private transport will take you to Cusco, arriving around 8:00 PM.
