Day 1Cusco – Ocongate – Upis – Upis Campsite – Upis Lake (Hot Springs)

Your 8-Day Ausangate Trek to Rainbow Mountain and Sibinacocha Lake begins early, with a 4:30 a.m. pickup from your hotel in Cusco. We drive for about three hours to the small Andean community of Upis, located at the foot of the sacred Apu Ausangate. Upon arrival, we enjoy a hearty breakfast prepared by our trekking chef.

We begin our gradual ascent through traditional farmlands, passing potato fields, stone houses, and grazing alpacas. This slow climb helps with acclimatization and offers our first impressive views of the northeastern face of Ausangate, one of the most revered mountains in the Andes.

After three hours of hiking, we arrive at the Upis Campsite (4,200 m / 13,779 ft), where lunch awaits. In the afternoon, you may join an optional short hike to Upis Lake, a peaceful glacial lagoon located about two hours roundtrip from camp.
