Early start from Cusco (4:30 – 5:00 a.m.)Your adventure begins with a scenic private drive to Mollepata (approx. 3 hours), passing through Andean valleys, rugged mountains, and picturesque traditional villages. Along the way, you can enjoy spectacular views of the Andes and rural life, with opportunities for photography of landscapes and local communities.
In Mollepata, you will enjoy a nutritious traditional Andean breakfast and meet your trekking team: professional guides, muleteers, and horses who will accompany you throughout the route. Then, you will continue by vehicle to Challacancha, the official starting point of the Salkantay Trek.The first day of trekking is moderate, ideal for acclimatization. The trail passes through beautiful Andean landscapes, streams, highland forests, and native vegetation, with breathtaking views of the Salkantay and Humantay mountains. After lunch around 1:00 p.m., you will continue to Soraypampa, the first campsite of the trek.Optional: Humantay Lake Hike
Humantay Lake is one of the most photographed destinations in Cusco, with intense turquoise waters surrounded by snow-capped mountains. The hike takes approximately 1.5 hours round trip and is an excellent opportunity for unique photos and to enjoy the Andean nature.
Start your day with hot coca tea in your tent before beginning. Today is the most challenging and rewarding day of the trek, where you will cross Salkantay Pass, the highest point of the route at 4,600 m / 15,092 ft.The ascent offers stunning views of glaciers, rugged mountains, and alpine landscapes. During the hike, your guide will explain the spiritual significance of the Apus (sacred mountains) and Pachamama (Mother Earth), essential elements of Andean cosmology.
After lunch, you will descend into the high jungle, where the scenery changes from cold mountains to a warm, lush environment with rivers, waterfalls, tropical vegetation, and abundant flora. Arrival at the Challhuay campsite, surrounded by nature and tranquility.
After breakfast, continue trekking through the high jungle, one of the most biodiverse sections of the Salkantay Trek. Here, you will see orchids, bromeliads, ferns, hummingbirds, butterflies, and local wildlife.
The trail alternates between gentle ascents and descents, offering varied walking and spectacular scenery. Lunch in Playa Sahuayaco, followed by a 2-hour private transfer to Santa Teresa (Lucmabamba).Optional: Cocalmayo Hot Springs,The Cocalmayo Hot Springs are perfect to relax and recover after trekking days. The warm waters and natural surroundings provide a unique moment of rest.
Wake up with hot coca tea and begin trekking along dense jungle trails toward the Hydroelectric Plant, enjoying waterfalls, crystal-clear rivers, and panoramic jungle landscapes. Lunch will be served en route.From the Hydroelectric Plant, continue walking along the train tracks to Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of Machu Picchu. Upon arrival, check in at a comfortable hostel and enjoy some free time to explore the town, shop for souvenirs, or relax in the local hot springs.
Very early in the morning, you will board one of the first buses to Machu Picchu, entering the archaeological site at sunrise to enjoy its magic before the arrival of most visitors.
You will enjoy a guided tour of approximately 2 hours, learning about the history, engineering, and Andean culture. You will discover details about the site’s planning, Inca engineering, and its spiritual connection with nature and astronomy.During the visit, you can take photographs and admire the views of the cloud forest and surrounding mountains, soaking in the unique energy of Machu Picchu.Optional Hikes (advance booking required) Huayna Picchu: a steep 50-minute hike offering panoramic views of Machu Picchu from above.Machu Picchu Mountain: a longer hike of 2–3 hours with spectacular views of the valley and the archaeological site. After the visit, you will descend by bus to Aguas Calientes, then take the train to Ollantaytambo, followed by a private transfer back to Cusco, concluding your adventure at approximately 8:00 p.m.

A light day pack with a change of clothes for the whole period of the trek – prepare for a vast range of changes in temperature
Rain gear (jacket and pants if available) or rain poncho. Plastic ponchos can be bought for about $1 in Cusco
Strong footwear, waterproof trekking boots recommended. Extra socks are a must.
Small backpack
Sandals or plastic slip on thongs are also good to give your feet a chance to breath in the evenings if you wish to carry them.
Warm clothes, including jacket, fleeces, gloves, scarf and beanie/touk. Thermal clothing is also recommended, especially for sleeping. * This is a particularly cold trek, you should make sure you have a lot of very warm clothes.
