Itinerary – Classic Choquequirao Trek with Cabins & Huts (5 Days)

Day 1Cusco – Cachora – Chikiska

Your adventure begins early in the morning. For group departures from Cusco, we meet at Plazoleta Regocijo at 6:30 a.m., just steps from the main square. From here, we travel by private transport for approximately 4.5 hours to Capuliyoc, the official trailhead of the Choquequirao Trek.

Travelers coming from Abancay will join the group around 9:00 a.m. before continuing to Cachora and then onward to Capuliyoc. Upon arrival, we enjoy lunch with stunning panoramic views of the Apurímac Canyon and the snow-capped Padreyoc Mountain.

After lunch, we begin the trek, descending for about 3 hours along scenic viewpoints such as Cocamasana, until reaching Chikiska. Here, we enjoy dinner and overnight accommodation in a comfortable rural lodge with private double rooms, perfect for a restful first night.

Day 2Chikiska – Marampata - Santuario Lodge

After an early breakfast, we continue descending for 1 hour to Playa Rosalina, where we cross the Apurímac River. From here begins one of the most challenging sections of the trek: a 1.5–2 hour uphill climb to Santa Rosa, demanding but rewarding.

Following a short rest, we continue ascending for another 1.5–2 hours until reaching the high-Andean village of Marampata. After gaining more than 1,500 meters (4,900 ft) in elevation, we enjoy a well-earned lunch and a relaxing afternoon.

Dinner and overnight stay are at the Santuario Lodge, a cozy mountain lodge offering panoramic views, warm rooms, and a peaceful atmosphere—ideal preparation for visiting Choquequirao.

Day 3Marampata – Choquequirao – Santa Rosa

After breakfast, we hike toward the Choquequirao Archaeological Park, one of the largest and most mysterious Inca cities. With our expert guide, we explore the site’s main sectors, including:

The famous Llama Terraces
Panoramic viewpoints overlooking the canyon
Our muleteer brings lunch directly to the ruins, allowing us to maximize time exploring this incredible site. In the afternoon, we return to Marampata and then descend to Santa Rosa, where we enjoy dinner and overnight accommodation in a local lodge.

We start early to avoid the intense heat near the river. After a light drink, we descend for 1.5 hours to the Apurímac River, then climb 1 hour to Chikiska, where we enjoy breakfast and a short rest.

The final ascent continues for 3.5–4 hours back to Capuliyoc, arriving in time for lunch. The afternoon is free to relax and enjoy the scenery.

In the evening, we gather around a small campfire and spend our final night in comfortable mountain cabins, overlooking the Apurímac Canyon and the snow-capped Padreyoc Peak—a truly magical ending to the trek.

This is also one of the best locations to spot Andean condors gliding through the canyon in the early morning.

Lunch is served à la carte, with prices ranging from 10–20 soles. In the afternoon, we return to Cusco by private transport, arriving around 4:00 p.m.
