Over the course of four days, the trail meanders through lush cloud forests, expansive Andean valleys, and rugged mountain passes, leading you to incredible archaeological sites, terraces, and ruins. Each day brings fresh landscapes and countless photo ops, ensuring the trek is not only visually stunning but also culturally enriching.
The pinnacle of the Classic Inca Trail 4 Day Trek is reaching the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), where you’ll catch your first awe inspiring glimpse of Machu Picchu. From this legendary viewpoint, you’ll descend to explore the ancient citadel with a knowledgeable guide, diving into its fascinating history and spiritual significance. Completing this four day trek is truly a once in a lifetime accomplishment, merging adventure, culture, and the stunning beauty of the Andes making it an essential experience for anyone visiting Peru Inca Trail 4 Days to Machu Picchu.
We pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 5:00 am and travel for approximately 2 hours through the Sacred Valley of the Incas to reach KM 82, the official starting point of the Classic Inca Trail. Along the way, we stop in Ollantaytambo for breakfast and to meet our experienced Quechua-speaking porters.
After passing the checkpoint (original passport required), we begin our first day of hiking. The initial 3-hour trek follows gentle Andean terrain surrounded by rich flora and fauna until we reach the archaeological site of Llactapata, where your professional guide will explain its historical significance. After lunch, we continue hiking for about 2 more hours to our first campsite in Wayllabamba, arriving around 4:00 pm.
This is the most challenging and rewarding day of the Classic Inca Trail trek. After an early breakfast at 6:00 am, we begin a 4-hour ascent to the highest point of the trail: Warmiwañusca Pass (Dead Woman’s Pass) at 4,215 m / 13,828 ft. From the top, you’ll enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and snow-capped Andean peaks.
After a well-earned rest and lunch, we descend for about 2 hours along a beautifully preserved stone path to our second campsite in Pacaymayu, arriving around 4:00 pm.
Often considered the most scenic day of the Inca Trail, today combines impressive archaeology with lush cloud forest landscapes. After breakfast, we hike 2 hours uphill to the circular Inca site of Runkuracay. After a guided explanation, we continue for another 2 hours to the spectacular ruins of Sayacmarca, where we stop for lunch.
The trail then winds through cloud forest to Puyupatamarca, one of the best-preserved and most impressive Inca sites on the route. From here, we descend to our final campsite at Wiñay Wayna. In the evening, we enjoy a farewell celebration with our cooks and porters before they return to KM 107.
On the final day, we wake up very early at 3:00 am to begin the last stretch of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. After breakfast, we hike approximately 3 hours to the legendary Sun Gate (Inti Punku), where you will witness a breathtaking sunrise over Machu Picchu, one of the most unforgettable moments of the entire trek.
Upon entering the citadel, your guide will provide a 2-hour guided tour, following the official circuit and visiting Machu Picchu’s most important temples, terraces, and ceremonial areas. After the tour, we descend to Aguas Calientes (lunch not included).
